KPDC: First of all we want you all to introduce yourself
and share few words about your efforts behind this
success? What are your future plans?
1. Syed Hussain Ahmed: I secured 3rd Position among boys
in the Matriculation Examinations and I want to be a
Chartered Accountant in future as I think there is a lot
of scope in this field.
2. Arham Shafique: I got 3rd Position among boys in the
matriculation examination and I want to do MBA from IBA.
I achieved this success through my persistent hard work
and with the help of my teachers and parents.
3. Ahmed Ali Ansari: I secured 3rd Position and I want
to be an Engineer. I had aimed at getting position and
worked very hard for it throughout the year. I believe
that students should work hard from the very first day
of their academic year, rather than start studying some
time before exams.
4. QuratulAin Yasir: I got 1st position all over
Karachi. I want to be a doctor with the specialization
in heart diseases. I worked very hard right from the
beginning of 9th class. I got a very good percentage in
9th class so I realized that I had every chance of
getting a position and I worked very hard to get it. I
never became a book-worm, I also kept on participating
in extra-curricular activities.
5. FaizaNajam: I am from SMS Agha Khan School. I got 3rd
Position all over Karachi. I intended to get the
position and by virtue of sheer hard work and by the
grace of Almighty Allah I achieved it. Most of the
students go after Five-years, but I believe they should
follow the complete syllabus. I would like to praise my
parents for my success as they encouraged me all the way
through.
6. Anmbreen Altaf: I am from Agha Khan School, Garden. I
secured 2nd position in General Group. I want to be a CA
Gold Medalist because I take it as a challenge. We
should pay required attention to our education as well
as other sectors of our lives, especially our religion.
I am proud that I haven’t missed any prayers nor fasting
throughout my exams. ALLAH helped me all the way as I
wasn’t a very good student till eighth class but
afterwards, by the grace of my ALLAH, I improved and
then I got the position. The way I studied in Matric
class and after that, is that I used to wake up and
start studying at 3 a.m.
7. Muhammad Mudassir Akmal: I belong to Karachi Public
School and got 2nd Position among boys in Science Group.
I studied late hours in the nights and worked very hard.
I never hoped for a position but Almighty Allah helped
me. I used to do selected studies as well as thorough
studies at the same time. I used to get help from
five-year papers, papers from different schools and
institutes. I used to study all these papers and plan
that how many questions I would attempt and in which way
I can do it. I don’t believe in ‘Ruttafication’, but I
had to do a little bit of it in English, Urdu and
Islamiat.
8. Zakir Ali: I am from Ghulaman-e-Badar School and I
secured 2nd Position in General Group all over Karachi.
I give all the credit to my teachers because they worked
very hard. An evidence of our teachers’ efforts is that
our school has had a good track record of getting
positions since 1974.
9. Abbas Raza: I am from Ghulaman-e-Badar School, I got
1st position in General Group. I would also appreciate
the efforts of our teachers. They kept on encouraging us
and worked very hard on us throughout the year.
10. Rizwan Ali: I am from Ghulaman-e-Badar School. I got
3rd position in General group. I had decided to work
hard to obtain a position in matriculation examination
and also I want to take position in the intermediate
examination.
KPDC: What do you think
about ‘Ruttafication’? Is it good or bad?
SHA: I think ‘Ruttafication’ is quite common but it’s
not the right thing. I think Karachi Board of Secondary
Education should take solid steps and the pattern of the
question paper needs to be changed in such a way that
more and more MCQs and objective questions should be
included, so that only those students get succeeded who
have the clear concept and better understanding of the
subject.
KPDC: Who is your favorite personality?
SHA: My favorite personality is Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan
and I tend to follow his qualities because he is our
national hero.
KPDC: Any message you would like to convey to the other
students?
My message to all our students is that ‘Ruttafication’
is not going to help us in the long run and we should
obtain as much knowledge as we can through books and
other mediums, because knowledge is what make you a
successful human being.
KPDC: We would like to
know your point of view about the tuitions and coaching
centres?
AS: I think until Matric, students don’t need to take
tuitions but when we come to Inter; we need to go for it
because our colleges do not provide quality education. I
believe government has to pay extra ordinary interest to
the affairs of our colleges and the professors should
strictly be ordered to concentrate on their duties at
the colleges instead of their private coaching centres.
KPDC: Who is your favorite personality?
AS: My favorite personalities are quite a few including
Quaid-e-Azam but I idealize my father and I try to
follow him.
KPDC: Your message for the students?
AS: My message for the students is that they should
concentrate on their education and should read more and
more books, and they must not rely on “Ruttafication”. I
also would like to give a suggestion to the Board that
question-paper should be changed in a way that objective
questions should be included.
KPDC: What do you think
about Five-Year papers and how helpful they can be for
the students in order to get prepared for the papers?
AAA: I think five-year papers are important because one
can get idea about the pattern of the examination paper
but students must not entirely rely on it. They should
study and learn, as much as they can, out of the
curriculum because whatever is written in the books is
important and needs to be learnt.
KPDC: Any message for the students of the country?
AAA: My message for the boys especially is that they
should focus on the studies for the reason that they are
the future of this country and they should try and make
a successful career in their respective fields.
KPDC: What is your opinion
on ‘Ruttafication’ and to which extent it’s helpful?
QY: I don’t think Ruttafication is a useful thing at any
level, be it Matric or Inter or any other class. If you
do that, you will soon forget your lesson, but if you
thoroughly learn the lesson, you can remember it for
your life-time.
KPDC: What do you think about the pattern of Question
Paper in Matriculation Exams and what suggestions would
you like to give to the Board regarding it?
QY: In my opinion the question paper needs to be changed
a lot. MCQs should be included in the papers, rather
than repeating the same questions after 2 or 3 years.
MCQs will provide a clearer idea of the student’s
concept and understanding level, since there will be no
chance of Ruttafication and the students can only answer
to those questions about which they have the knowledge.
KPDC: Are tuitions necessary for the success in exams?
QY: In my opinion, taking tuitions has just become a
trend among the students. Students need to be
independent and they should have confidence in
themselves and in case they feel any problem, they can
ask their teachers at school. I believe, at least until Matric, tuitions are not necessary.
KPDC: What do you think of
Five-Year Papers? How do you see the pattern of the
question paper?
FN: As I see it, five-year papers are somehow necessary
for those students who just try to obtain passing marks.
It’s unfortunate that the examiners prepare a question
paper according to the previous year’s papers. This
should not happen and paper should be prepared in a
different style in which objective questions should be
included.
KPDC: What is the reason behind your success?
FN: I worked extremely hard and also planned to manage
my time. I knew my strong points and weak points, so I
planned that in which subject I need to work harder. I
also got help from the books other than the curriculum.
KPDC: What is your message for the other students?
FN: I want to suggest that we should all respect our
teachers and study thoroughly not just for the sake of
passing, but to learn more and more and to become a good
human-being.
KPDC: Your views about the
pattern of the paper? And how important are tuitions in
your opinion?
AA: I think the pattern should be changed, because now,
we know that if you have a look at the papers of
previous five years, you will guess to quite an extent
which question is going to be included in the next
year’s paper.
I had to take tuitions, since I had some duties to
perform, so I had not been able to manage my time. I
believe that tuitions or coaching centres are not
necessary, if we try hard and have confidence in
ourselves, nothing is impossible.
KPDC: What would you say about ‘Ruttaficaion’ and
‘Cheating’ during exams?
AA: I think Ruttafication is something which you can’t
do all the time; at least I can’t do that. I would also
believe that, apart from the academics, schools should
also encourage extra-curricular activities among the
students.
As far as the cheating is concerned, I have never seen
anyone doing cheating both in 9th as well in Matric
exams.
KPDC: What message you want to convey to the students?
AA: I think every student should be an “average
student”, he or she should not become a book-worm. They
should also pay attention to other areas of the life
like religion, sports or any other such activity.

KPDC: What do you think
about tuitions and what reasons do you see behind your
success?
MMA: I think it depends upon the caliber of the
students, weather to take tuitions or not. Some students
can pick the lessons quickly from any teacher, but some
can not do that, so they need to take tuitions from
wherever they feel comfortable.
KPDC: Who is your favorite personality which inspired
you?
MMA: There are many people in my family, to inspire me.
One of my cousins was the first Pakistani Gold-Medalist
in Canada. My other two cousins have always been in the
top-ten list at NED. I receive guidance as well as
inspiration from within my family.
KPDC: Your views about the Matriculation exams pattern?
MMA: I think the current examination pattern needs to be
changed. In my opinion, you can not judge the brilliance
of a student in just three hours. For example, when our
cricket team gets defeated in a match, we say that it
was an unfortunate day for our team. But when a student
doesn’t get good marks in a paper, no one is ready to
accept that it can be a bad day for him also. I suggest
that the student’s performance should be monitored
throughout the academic year and the Annual Marks Sheet
should include the marks of all the tests given by the
students throughout the year.
KPDC: Any message for the students of the country?
MMA: My message is that while studying, students don’t
need to follow a certain pattern, just study in a way
which is most convenient for a student.
KPDC: What do you think
about the tuitions? What would be your suggestions
regarding the examination pattern?
ZA: I have never taken tuitions because whatever was
taught at our school, I used to understand that
perfectly. If we try and learn at our schools, we would
not need to take tuitions.
The pattern of exams should be changed, because now we
can guess easily which question is going to be included
in the next paper. The reason being that our examiner
doesn’t want to put any efforts while preparing a
question paper. He just goes through the last five-year
question papers and select questions from there. Even
there are certain objectives questions like Fill in the
blanks, which are repeated after every 2,3 years.
KPDC: Who is your favorite personality?
ZA: I don’t take any human being as an ideal because
human beings make errors. However, my favorite
personality is that of Hazrat Ali (R.A.)
KPDC: What do you think
about the tuitions? Who is your favorite personality?
AR: I have never taken tuitions since our School timings
are from 8 to 4 P.M. Also, our teachers are very
professionals and they worked extremely hard, to make us
successful. Apart from academics, we also used to
participate in other activities which helped us get our
minds refreshed.
As far as my favorite personality is concerned, it’s Mr
A.K. Khatri, he is our principal and he inspired me to
work hard all the time.
KPDC: What will be your message for the other students?
AR: I think students should never rely totally on the
Five-Year papers, it might help you in obtaining marks,
but it will not be help you in the life and professional
careers. You can get a bit of help from them, as I did,
but you can not totally depend upon that for the
success.
KPDC: How much helpful can
the sports or other extra-curricular activities be for
the students? Also tell us about your favorite
personality?
RA: I think sports or any other such activities are very
important because it’s very necessary to refresh your
minds. Students should follow a time-table, in which
there should be some time for extra-curricular
activities also, besides studies.
My favorite personality is the principal of our school
Ghulaman-e-Badar, Mr. A.K. Khatri.
KPDC: What is your message for the other students?
RA: I want to convey this message to all the students
that everything is possible in this world. We should not
limit our studies by only aiming at getting jobs; we
should get higher education and concentrate heavily on
our studies.
