KPDC: Tell us about yourself and about your achievement?

Mr. Sajid Katiya (SK): I have done matriculation from H.M tiny tots school Kharadar and intermediate from Bahria College. My father, Mr. Abdul Ghaffar Katiya, is a renowned social worker. I was not very good in studies up to Intermediate. I got ‘B’ grade in Matriculation and a ‘C’ in Intermediate. My father used to say that I should sit near a bridge and start cutting people hair.

My mother is also a BA. I took inspiration from my parents and my sister. My father always wished to make me a good and successful person and he tried very hard for me. When I got admission in PAF-KIET, I saw Mr. Khurram H. Kalia during one of our community functions. I got really impressed when I heard of his achievement.

I remember my father motivated me a lot then. I also read a quotation somewhere which says, “The difference between dream and accomplishment is purely desire”. I developed a desire to accomplish that dream of my father.

Of course I worked hard and by the grace of Almighty ALLAH, achieved this success.

KPDC: Why did you choose Computer Science as your subject?

SK: In 1999, I was given my personal computer at home. That was the time when it was not very common. I started using the system and by the passage of time, the interest developed for computer studies. I wanted to take computer science in Intermediate too but unfortunately it wasn’t available in our college. So, I did intermediate in Pre-Engineering and then got admission at PAF-KIET for BS in computer science.

KPDC: How do you feel being a gold medalist at University level?

SK: First of all I would like to thank Almighty ALLAH for enabling me to achieve what I wanted. It’s really a great feeling that finally I have achieved something for which I had been working hard for four years. I sacrificed many things, I avoided being with my friends on occasions like New Year Night and preferred to study at home. I also sacrificed my sleep. My parents wanted me to achieve this and by the grace of Almighty ALLAH I have done something which my parents wanted me to do.

KPDC: What method of studies did you follow?

SK: I used to learn everything unlike other students who used to do selected studies. I actually worked very hard and gave as much time to my studies as I could. We were also lucky enough as we had very cooperative teachers. Their way of teaching made it even easier to get the logic. For subjects like Maths, software engineering etc. we needed some extra efforts from our teachers to score well. I must say our teachers put all their efforts.

KPDC: How do you see the scope of information technology in Pakistan?

SK: According to my knowledge, the scope of IT is growing well in Pakistan. But the standard is going down and now fewer students are coming towards computer education because after graduating in computer sciences, the students do not get well-paid jobs. As a result, students are getting discouraged and they are not coming in this field in great numbers. Instead, they are going for MBA or BBA, after doing which, they can find a better job. But I am optimistic about the scope of IT, that’s why I have joined this field and looking to excel in same.

KPDC: What are you future plans?

SK: I am doing MBA-MIS and besides I am also doing Oracle certification. I have applied for MBA-Finance too at a university. I have plans to open a consulting firm or may be a Software House in future.

KPDC: Do you take part in the extra-curricular activities?

SK: I took part in programming competition held at Lahore in 2005 and secured 5th position. I participated in a quiz competition too held by the Karachi University in 2005. During my Matric, I won a debate competition and a quiz competition. Last year, I did a training program which was meant to train individuals to enable them to train others.

I am also fond of exercise and body building and I am hoping to compete in 2008 Mr. Karachi Competition INSHAALLAH.

KPDC: Are you satisfied with the education system in Pakistan?

SK: I think the criteria and the courses are not exactly up to their mark. There is a lack of professionalism and dedication on the part of teachers but I think students are also not serious towards their studies. Students don’t attend the classes in colleges and universities. If the students start taking interest in their studies, teachers will also show their interests and consequently a better academic environment will be developed in institutions.

KPDC: What message would you like to convey to the youth of Pakistan?

SK: My message to all the students is that dream what you want to achieve and then create a desire to achieve that.

KPDC: Thank you so much for being here and enlightening us with your thoughts. C U on Net.

SK:
I also enjoyed being here. C U On Net 2.
